The R7 Purpose Shadowbox | Give Your Scraps a Purpose

Every maker has a pile of purged lines and filament "poops" that usually end up in the trash. I designed this shadowbox to change that—giving your scrap filament a literal purpose while cleaning up your workbench in style.

🛠️ Engineering & Slicer Tricks

This model is provided as a single, carefully tuned 3MF file. To get the high-end look seen in the photos, I used some "slicer engineering" to get three distinct textures out of just two colors:

• Dual-Texture Black: I used a "ghost" filament profile to trick the slicer. This allowed me to apply a heavy Fuzzy Skin to the outer shadowbox frame while keeping the "PURPOSE" sign face perfectly smooth, even though they use the same roll of black.
• The "Grid" Mesh: The background of the sign is the real secret. I set this part to have 0 top and 0 bottom layers with a 5% infill. This creates a clean lattice that lets the colors of your scrap filament peek through.
• Painted Accents: The pink flourish and sign background are pre-painted in the 3MF file for a seamless multi-material print.

⚙️ Assembly Instructions

1. Print the 3MF file: The outer box and the sign face are separate pieces layed out together in 1 3MF file.
2. Fill: Lay the shadowbox on its back and fill the cavity with your colorful filament scraps.
3. Finish: Press-fit the sign face onto the front. I recommend a few small dabs of superglue in the corners for a permanent bond.
