Pulley Snap Lever Fidget – Arcade-Inspired Kinetic Desk Toy
This pulley snap fidget is a kinetic desk toy inspired by classic arcade machines and mechanical controls. The design resembles a miniature arcade computer, featuring three lever-style pulleys. Each lever can be pulled forward or backward and snaps decisively into place using a built-in spring-like mechanism that stores and releases kinetic energy, creating a crisp and satisfying motion.
The goal of this design was to explore motion, resistance, and feedback using purely mechanical geometry rather than metal springs or electronics. Every snapping action is achieved through carefully designed hinges and flex elements, making the fidget fully 3D printable and easy to assemble. The result is a playful yet precise desk toy that encourages hands-on interaction while showcasing how motion and energy can be controlled through thoughtful design.
This design is also part of a personal challenge I’m doing for the year 2026: designing and releasing a brand new 3D printable model every single day for an entire year. Each design will explore a different idea—some practical, some playful, some reflective. If you enjoy following creative processes, testing new designs, or simply watching ideas turn into physical objects, feel free to follow along and join me on this 365-day journey.
