Shoji Lamp

This model is restricted by licensing terms.

The Shoji Lamp, inspired by Japanese Shoji (Sliding doors made of a lattice covered with paper). The lamp creates a soft ambient glow in any space, creating a zen and calm atmosphere. The pieces all print without supports and fit through peg and slot joints so no glue is required. Try out different filaments such as transparent PETG or Matte PLA to get different textures and light diffusion! (Added new version of lampshade which has thickness of 2 walls of 0.8mm to reduce wobble during print)

Instructions

  • 3MF file and individual STLs are included
  • Use a lower layer height such as .12mm for a higher quality finish and print (Optional)
  • The bulb holder holds an E27 Socket with a 370mm diameter

Lamp Base and Exterior

  • No supports required
  • Everything is connected through peg and slot joints

Lamp Shade (2 options)

  • First option is to print the 0.8mm wall thickness lampshade (regular settings)
  • Second option is to print the lampshade in vase mode (enable spiral vase mode) (Important to note that vase mode print could lead to a wobbly surface finish albeit with a much shorter print time)
  • When printing slow down the print by 25-50% and reduce extruder fan speed to reduce the wobble of the lampshade during printing

Filament

  • Kexcelled Light Brown Matte PLA (Lamp Base and Frame)
  • ESUN White PLA+ (Lamp Shade)

Filament and non 3D printed items for this model can be found on my Amazon Storefront, linked here: https://linktr.ee/xunodesign

Looks great! Love the pumpkin spice PLA speckles!

Hi Xuno, is there any chance you could design a variant that fits an E14 socket? It could be compatible with the IKEA Stråla, for example.

For sure! Let me look into making this an option!

Hi Xuno! I love this lamp design! I've attempted the print the lamp shade with your exact settings in the main post. Unfortunately, I'm getting waviness in the lamp shade sides. Do you have any further suggestions on how I can get this to print correctly? Thank you!

Hi! Ah yeah this is a common issue that has been mentioned. I have included a new 3MF file for the lampshade and a new STL of the newer lampshade. The new shade has a double wall thickness so no vase mode is used. The thickened wall should reinforce the print a bit more and reduce waviness and wobbles. I would definitely suggest to still slow down the print speed and extruder fan if possible to further reduce the effect!

I still had that issue with the new model. Swapping the print to my H2D from my A1

H2D less warping. I think it has to do with cooling

mm interesting, seems that prints on the A1 tends to have a higher chance for these warping, I print on my P1P and there is minimal warping. I do find that temperature changes and cooling from open printers do have higher chances to cause the print walls to warp due to temperature changes. Will be testing out more thicknesses of the walls to see if it affects this as well

So I thickened the walls 1.6mm of the shade up. First run less warping on my A1. I want to make sure this doesn't impact the lighting effect.

Hi Xuno. Love your designs. I have a p2s and am getting warping on the shade. I tried the newer 3mf and the newer model. I'm providing the URLs for two screenshots of my bambu studio settings. Could you tell me if this is what you meant by slowing things down in a previous post? Any other advise would be great. Thanks!

Hi Xuno, I already downloaded the new version of the lampshade but it still has waviness and now it doesn't fix where it should be. It looks like the second layer should be to the inside and not the outside. I hope you find a solution, thanks.

Hi, do you have any photos of the print? The second layer I added is inside as well. I am running a few more tests for the perfect wall thickness and speed that is more universal. I found that open printers where the ambient air temperature fluctuates tend to cause more of this warping issue as well
