DOOM The Dark Ages Shield Saw (V2) Fully Functional Replica | Multiple Sizes Pre-Sliced | Fan Made
Rip and tear with your very own fully functional Shield Saw. V2 now includes deployable and revolving teeth, as well as other small enhancements. Every part has been revised from V1. The 2 versions are not compatible with each other. This is a custom design that's been faithfully and tirelessly recreated. This is fully 3D printed with 30+ separate parts (not including hardware), 9+ different colors, and assembled with stainless steel screws. The 6.5" version weighs 9 oz, while the 10" version weighs well over 2 pounds. The 23" life-size version is heavy - You'll want to be as jacked as the Slayer before you hold it. All measurements are with the teeth retracted. The Divinity skin is included and pre-painted, as well as the Void and Nightmare skins. The Stands are also included. Video of the mechanism working can be found here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DOYxUYqjtZH/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
Operation: A basic printed bit is included with the 6.5" version, and standard square bits will also work. For the 6.5" version, use a square #3 bit (SQ3) in the center slot to turn the internal gears and make the teeth spin. For the 10" version, use a square #4 bit (SQ4). The 10" version requires more torque than a printed bit can reliably handle, so you will need to use a metal one for it. For the 23" life-size version use a 1/2" drive extension. Deploying and retracting the teeth can be done with a bit as well, or you can quickly turn the outermost gear on the rim of the shield. Screwdrivers or drills work great. Just take it easy if you decide to use a drill to work the mechanism. You will strip out the (plastic) square slot if you go too fast. The center gear with the square slot has been set up to be reinforced with carbon fiber-infused filament, but you should still use caution. The drills in the videos are running at medium speed with low torque at most.
Project File Notes: The project files have been set up in Bambu Studio for the H2D. However, the small 6.5" version will fit on an A1 Mini plate, and the large 10" version will fit on an A1 or X1C plate. The life-size 23" version will require the size of an H2D plate at least, unless you want to split it into more pieces. Be aware that there are 2 files for the small 6.5" version. I've split it up into 2 different nozzle sizes. Some of the parts just don't need to be printed with the small 0.2mm nozzle. I strongly recommend using PVA for at least the bottom shell slots where the handle pegs insert. Getting support out of those 2 areas is very difficult and you won't be able to get a clean smooth surface for the handle to slide across. PVA makes it a lot easier. For the rest of the areas that require support, you can use something like "support for PLA" or PETG for the interface layers. Just make sure those supported surfaces turn out flat and smooth because gears will be sliding across them.
Assembly Notes:
- All screw holes will need to be drilled out slightly.
- When assembling the 2 halves, begin by having all the screws sticking out on the inside by about 1/16" at least. This will ensure there's enough clearance between the 2 halves for all the parts to slide. Otherwise, there's too much clamping force and it is difficult to move the parts.
- You can try greasing the gears if you feel there's too much resistance in the mechanism. I've used automotive marine grease with some success so far. I have not greased the life-size one, but it probably would benefit from it as it takes quite a bit of torque to turn everything.
