N Gauge Sentinel Diesel Loco
The Sentinel Waggon Works Ltd was a British company that produced steam and later diesel powered lorries and locomotives between 1915 and 1981. The Sentinel diesel shunter was produced with various engines and tranmissions in 0-4-0, 0-6-0 and 0-8-0 configurations, which were widely used across the coal, steel, chemical and mineral industries.
This body shell, based on a Sentinel 0-6-0, has been adapted to fit the Kato 11-109 or 11-110 Powered Chassis, but could be used with others.
- Buffers are printed below the body shell.
- The upper plastic cover should be removed from the Kato chassis (hooks at both ends and at the centre). The motor must be secured in the metal motor block to prevent it moving and damaging its gears. This can be done by gluing it down and weighting the motor using 10-15g of adhesive lead tape available from eBay. (See photograph)
- The body is a snug fit, so some careful filing might be necessary to sit the body properly.
- The Kato coupling pockets can be fitted into this model.
- The sides of the Kato subframe can be removed if both copper conductors are drilled centrally and screwed to the chassis block. (See photograph)
A Portuguese Railway 0-6-0 version has been built by @pedrojoliveira which uses a Japanese ARU Model A4013 chassis: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-printing/n-gauge-sentinel-diesel-shunter
