HANGIS is a three-part hanging planter designed to feel light, minimal, and secure at the same time.

**The set consists of:**
- planter body
- drip tray
- structural frame

The planter body is secured inside the frame, so you don’t have to worry about it slipping or falling out. Once assembled, it feels stable and balanced when hanging - yet it can be easily lifted out anytime for more comfortable watering or plant care.

It’s designed to be suspended with a **rope up to 6 mm diameter**, making it easy to adapt to your own hanging style - natural jute, cotton cord, ...
**TIP:** I used macrame rope.

The original turning planter: 

Use ANY COTTON ROPE UP TO  6 mm diameter and place it according to the pictures provided. 

Dimensions: length 173 mm, width 120 mm, height 140 mm

You can scale the model (remember to scale both parts in the same percentage), but more significant scaling might result in too tight of too loose turning mechanism, as the clearance is designed for 100 percent scale.

To get the rough surface look, apply fuzzy skin (slicer functionality) on the outside surfaces only. The parameters for fuzzy skin that I used were 0.4 mm thickness and 0.4 mm point distance. When applying the fuzzy skin on the bottom part, it is the best to apply a modifier that disables the fuzzy skin on the thread in the middle, but should work eighter way.

To avoid leaking, print the bottom part with at least 3-4 perimeters and 3 top and 3 bottom full layers. 

Print with no supports.

You can pour the water directly onto the plate, from which it flows into the pot, or if you pour into the pot, the excess water will drain onto the plate.

 

Note that due to the overlap of the ribs, when pouring water on a plate, be careful not to flood the water. Pour into several grooves a bit like swiping horizontally. If you want, you can scale the pot like 1 or 2 % smaller to create a better water flow to the plate.

My own 120x120x120 growing pot fits inside this. If you use a growing pot inside, make sure the size of the model before printing. The bottom is moderately narrow. Scale if needed.

 

It takes time to print all the features, but this is quite easy to print, so you can increase the print speed if the print time feels long.

The first version of the [Rail Tripod](https://thangs.com/designer/LoftedGoods/3d-model/The%20Rail%20-%20Tripod%20Attachment-1463861) has become one of my favorite designs, but there is always room for improvement! Here are the main updates to version 2:

- Instead of using wedges to secure the attachments to the dowel, I added spacers that go in-between each attachment. This makes for a super clean look and each attachment (except the top one) can easily swivel 360 degrees.
- The spacers can be scaled in the Z direction to accommodate any length of dowel.
- The top attachment is secured to the top of the dowel using a #8x1 screw. The screw is then hidden by a threaded cap. **Make sure you pre-drill using an 1/8" drill bit.**
- Added an optional base that includes threads for sleeves that cover the leg dowels. This maintains the rigidity of the wooden dowel legs while finishing off the aesthetic. You shouldn't have to screw the leg dowels to the base if you go with this option.
- Included files for 1", 25mm, and 23mm dowels. The metric files are included in two 3mf files. If you need the individual STLs, you can export them from the 3mf's.

The dowels for the legs are meant to be cut into into 10" (254mm) lengths using a [miter box and hand saw set](https://a.co/d/dVGe9gE) (you can find these at any hardware store).

The Rail Tripod V2

I've had the original [Rail](https://thangs.com/designer/LoftedGoods/3d-model/The%20Rail-1144868) mounted in my studio and home for about a year now and while it looks and functions wonderfully, I noticed some room for improvement. So here's version 2!

In the first design, printed set screws held the brackets and attachments to the dowel. Now, the design doesn’t need set screws at all, making it faster to print, easier to install, and cleaner looking.

The top and bottom brackets have closed ends that sandwich the dowel in place, and the sliding dovetail attachment is secured with a small wedge inserted from the bottom.

You'll notice there are two sizes of Sliding Dovetail Attachments. **The larger size fits all of my large wall mounted planters** as well as the small size if it has the new under-mount drip tray ([Example](https://thangs.com/designer/LoftedGoods/3d-model/Wall%20Planter%20with%20Hidden%20Drip%20Tray%20-%20LG02-1305480)).

If you're using a small size of the original design ([Example](https://thangs.com/designer/LoftedGoods/3d-model/Quilted%20Planter-994217)), use the small Dovetail Attachment.

**How to mount to your wall**

1. Slide dovetail attachments onto dowel
2. Insert wedge into attachments from the bottom. Use a flat head screwdriver to push the wedge all the way in and secure the attachment to the rail
3. Place top and bottom wall mounts on the ends of the rail
4. Insert the keyhole markers into the keyhole slots on the top and bottom wall mounts
5. Firmly press against wall in desired location and the keyhole markers will make an indent where you need to drill
6. Drill holes using a 3/16" drill bit
7. Insert wall anchors and screws (#8 - #10 x 1" screws and anchors)
8. Make sure the screw head is sticking out just far enough to tightly fit in the keyholes. Use the included depth gauge to determine the distance the screw head should be sticking out.
9. Attach rail to the wall
10. Slide planters on to attachments

Supports are needed for the flat overhang on the back of the planters

This cannot be scaled because the keyhole slots are specifically designed for #8 - #10 x 1" screws and anchors.
