April 2026 Release - the Spring Lockbox
Hi Printsmiths! Spring is finally here. Flowers are starting to bloom, a faint tinge of green is visible amongst the trees, and the cold wintry bite in the air is giving way to warmer tones. It just felt appropriate to capture the re-emergence of life with the Spring Lockbox!
This is the second “seasonal” puzzle box for 2026, pairing up nicely with the Winter Lockbox in our Welcome Pack. I wanted to capture a floral theme and quickly settled on a clean petal mosaic that was pretty easy to replicate on the end caps, the inner cylinders, and the recessed rims of the different parts.
Color selection was a bit tricky this go around. I originally started off with green and white tones, but really felt that the white was just too harsh and glaring. A little searching led me to Polymaker’s Pastel Mint which was light enough to serve as a good contrast with the other colors I wanted but wasn’t as stark as pure white. Sticking with Polymaker PLA, Forest Green, Pink, and Pastel Banana round out the color palette, providing the right tones for leaves and flower petals.
If you saw the sneak peak post from a week or two ago you’ll notice I also had a Lavender PLA penciled in for the color scheme (and it’s still visible in the container cap pic). However I really struggled to get that PLA printing properly and kept having oozing and snagging issues across all of the tool changes on my Prusa XL. I ultimately decided to table it and moved all of the flowers to the Pink and Pastel Banana combo, which both printed a lot better for me. Ultimately I’m happier with the simpler color set.
During the design phase I also knew I wanted “Flower Power” elements incorporated into the lockbox and found a perfect fit with the Quinella font by Dave Rowland. The letters flow and are nice and chunky and really contrast well with the simpler leaf pattern on the dials.
Overall, I think this model does a good job capturing the vibrance of spring and I think it’s a nice addition to our 2026 lockbox set. I invite you to download the Spring Lockbox and give it a print yourself. I cannot wait to see your final builds!
My best, Peter
