Sept Preview1.jpgSeptember is dedicated to the Dinovians, an ancient civilization that fled the mundane realm to escape the effects of the devastating war between their god, Archaen, and an enemy god, Stygian. The echoes of this war can still be felt today, with the random appearances of Stygian Apertures, shards of the dead god that create portals into Stygian's twisted barrow realm. The Dinovians who escaped into the barrow realms have highly developed magical technology which many from the mundane realm dismiss as myths and legends. However, the Dinovian Merchant Caravans still circulate back to this realm from time to time, albeit sometimes with hundreds of years in between. This month's minis are some of the characters are from Vae'lira's caravan, a merchant from our October 2023 Collection that first introduced this society.

Sept Preview2.jpgOur fabulous bases and terrain pack was sculpted by Kittifizz and Calrais this month, with concept art by Paul Ferret (as usual). The throwbacks include a fun collection of our back catalog minis, including some creatures from the Stygian Realm that might serve as a good encounter for tabletop gamers, a Lemurian Mage with her Servitor (our take on mermaids), and an adorable little Curly Tail Shishi, a pet or familiar that would be perfect to decorate your desk or keychain 🥰

Sept Preview3.jpgStat sheets are currently backlogged due to some life stuff, but we should be able to get April and May out fairly soon. Conflux Creatures is hard at work creating stats faster than we can format them!

If you want to know more about the background and history of the Dinovians, check out our CobraCompendium, the huge lore document containing all of our lore to date (plus a numbered listing of our back catalog collections): https://bit.ly/3om6snO

Here's this month's lore:

Threx & Zarrok - Dinovian Guards

Threx and Zarrok joined up with Vae’lira’s merchant caravan as rank and file caravan guards. Their standard issue weapons are Kinetospires, a magic tool imbued with basic Kinetomancy. They apply force from the end of the tool at range or close up, which, depending on the power level it is set to, can either push the opponent away, knock them down, or even crush them. These weapons allow laypersons to use Kinetomancy without having any magical power of their own, and must be crafted and imbued by a skilled magic user.

Solathar - Dinovian Priest

The Priests and Priestesses of Archaen commune with the goddess of Light and Knowledge and perform ceremonies, dedications, and occasional miracles at her behest. A living goddess, Archaen still protects and favors the Dinovains and can communicate through her chosen. Solathar, like most members of the clergy, was dedicated to the church as a child and raised to the priesthood for the majority of his life, after it was discovered that he could hear the goddess. It is a prestigious and well respected position, but Solathar lives a relatively humble life, accompanying caravans through the Barrow Realms and acting as a spiritual advisor for the workers and merchants.

Jorak - Dinovian Beast Handler and Solivusaurus

Experienced beast handlers are a necessity for the massive merchant caravans of the Dinovians. Despite their high level of magic and technology, the most economical and reliable form of transport is still by pack animals, who can traverse much more diverse terrain and subsist on local plant life. Jorak has been in the business for decades, and is a well trusted member of Vae’lira’s caravan company. He has an uncanny knack with animals, and some joke that he talks more with his beasts than he does with people. He even prefers to go nude rather than wear clothing like most Dinovians, a quirk which, while strange to most, is tolerated because of his irreplaceable skill.

Solivusaurus

Commonly used as a pack mount, the Solivusaurus has a delicate gait that allows it to travel across a wide variety of terrain, including rocky and steep hill and mountain sides. They can be quite intelligent and temperamental, each having their own distinct personality. A beast handler will normally ride one at the head of a string of five or six animals, perched atop the considerable loads that they can carry on their backs.

Ferelok - Dinovian Mercenary

A skilled claw weapon user, Ferelok can be brash and a bit arrogant for most peoples’ tastes. Undoubtedly skilled, he tends to let success go to his head and doesn’t want to think about petty things like “consequences” or “probable outcomes”. He thinks of himself as a true free spirit, though he does take his job seriously, if only for his pride. He is surprisingly reliable as a Caravan Guard; just not for anything else. Like most Dinovian Mercenaries, he frequents the Caravan Guard circuit, signing on for different companies and routes each time.
