VERY IMPORTANT: use flexible material. if you will use materials that are too stiff, they will need too much force to be pushed down and then the weight of phone etc will not be enough to push the pins down. So USE materials that are more elastic and will not keep the pins static.

This adaptive phone and tablet stand uses a surface made of 77 spring-loaded pins that automatically adjust to whatever you place on top. Each pin moves independently, allowing the surface to shape itself around a phone, tablet, or other device. When nothing is placed on it, the pins stand raised above the surface, but once a device is set down they compress and create a stable, custom support.

The design turns a simple stand into an interactive mechanical surface. The grid of moving pins creates a satisfying visual effect as they shift and settle around the shape of the object. It’s inspired by classic pin-art boards, but redesigned into a functional desk accessory that adapts to different devices instead of using fixed supports.

This design is also part of a personal challenge I’m doing for the year 2026: designing and releasing a brand new 3D printable model every single day for an entire year.
