Riku Table Lamp: Japanese Design to Light Up Your Home
The Lunfardo community is excited to welcome its newest creation: Riku, a table lamp inspired by traditional Japanese design, and part of a series of three oriental-style models that are as easy to assemble as they are stunning.
If you love the satisfying sound of pieces clicking into place perfectly, Riku will be even more rewarding than that distinct “crack” when a freshly printed piece peels off the printer bed.
With its design that blends the essence of traditional shōji screens with our exclusive RippleMesh texture, this lamp casts a warm and inviting light—perfect for those looking for a table lamp that subtly combines modern style with traditional charm.
A Design Inspired by Japanese Tradition
Riku is born from our admiration for traditional Japanese lamps, known for their simple yet elegant design that emphasizes harmony and balance.
What Are Shōji?
Shōji originated in Japan due to the lack of walls, as the traditional Japanese construction system relies on a simple grid of beams and columns. These translucent panels are used to ensure the privacy of a home's inhabitants.
They consist of rice paper curtains mounted on a wooden frame with a grid-like structure of slats, serving the purpose of dividing spaces.
The Design and Manufacturing Process
To create Riku, we worked in Grasshopper, the design software we regularly use.
💡 Helpful Tip: When printing the pieces, we decided to do so at a 45-degree angle to prevent marks on the lamp's columns and beams, achieving a flawless finish.
The assembly was a joy, as the pieces fit together perfectly, reminding us of the fun times we had building Legos as kids. The only difference was, well, this was actual work.
Now that the product is complete, what do you think? We’d love to see how your Rikus turn out once printed. You can download the design now and start creating your own!
