The Tank, Cruiser, Mk I (A9) was the first British "cruiser" tank, a class designed for high-speed breakthroughs and deep penetration into enemy rear areas, much like traditional cavalry. Designed by Sir John Carden in the mid-1930s, it served as an interim solution while more advanced designs were developed.
