Spiral Weave Pendant Light

I’ve been exploring different woven textures and patterns for lampshades, and this design is the result of finally achieving that effect entirely within the slicer, without any custom coding. The shade features a woven structure that allows light to pass through its gaps, creating dynamic lighting effects and subtle variations depending on the environment. Try out different filaments such as transparent PETG or Matte PLA to get different textures and light diffusion! A pendant light kit is required for this print, check out the link below for the pendant light kit I use. This was printed on a Bambulab P1P.

Instructions

  • 3MF file and individual STLs are included

Lamp Shade

  • No supports required

  • Enable "Spiral Vase Mode"

  • Uncheck "Slow Down for Overhangs" in the "Speed" section (Without this step it may cause unevenness in areas of the print as it attempts to slow down at the overhangs)

  • Set "Outer Wall" in the "Speed" section to around 100mm/s (Slowing down the prints help with the consistency of the finish)

  • Set "Outer Wall" line width between 0.6mm to 1mm (The original 0.42mm is fine, but a thicker wall creates a sturdier shade) (This assumed you use a 0.4 nozzle, for other sizes do tune the outer wall thickness accordingly)

  • Increase "Bottom Shell Layers" to 6 (The base of the print is designed to be 1.2mm thick)

  • Do dry your filament before printing if possible to reduce uneven surfaces, stringing and blobbing

  • Before slicing the print will mention the error of having non-manifold edges. From my experience it does not matter due to the unique pattern of the shade, so do not repair the model and proceed with slicing directly

Filament

  • Kexcelled Yellow Matte PLA

Filament and non 3D printed items for this model can be found on my Amazon Storefront, linked here: https://linktr.ee/xunodesign
