Magic Ball Fidget Toy
Hey, this is another variation of the Sphere Gear Mechanism by me. It is what you get when you make a Gear Ball with even more gears.
You need: Print 2.0 14 connectors 14 Gears in total, consisting of: 1 "Gear 1" 3 "Gear 2" 3 "Gear 3" 3 "Gear 4" 3 "Gear 5" 1 "Gear 6" 1 "Heart"
There is also an "All" file. This file has everything you need on one plate.
Assembly: Watch this video: https://youtu.be/VImt6CljWhA There is also a PDF Assembly guide included in the download. I sadly could not number all the gears. There just is no room left.
Tips: This model looks especially good when you print the "All" file with rainbow filament. That will give the whole ball a rainbow appearance when it’s closed. I used Protopasta's Nebula Multicolor Filament.
Troubleshooting: If your gears are too tight or too loose, watch this video: https://youtu.be/PWUoJc_Gc84
If your connectors break, try experimenting with how many walls you print. I usually print 2 walls, but try different amounts to see if it gets better. You can also try printing them with another spool or even another plastic. PETG works quite well.
Too tight/don’t turn easily: You can try to either scale the heart a little or make the connectors a little longer. This ball is a little harder to turn than the Gear Ball due to more gears, but it shouldn’t be an exercise.
Technical Data: The magic ball takes around 100g of filament and 5.5 hours to print.
The filament I used in the pictures is: Protopasta Nebula Multicolor

I noticed it's hard to rotate once it's all assembled. It looks like the teeth are to close. Should I increase the heart by 1%, what would you suggest?
I've tried increasing the heart a bit, and slightly longer connectors, and neither helped me. If you figure out something that works please come back and post!
so cool
Trying to print at my bambu lab a1 and the first layers are terrible. it won´t stay at the plate. Already reduced the velocity from the first layer. Didn´t have sucess yet.
Now that I've applied the first layer at speed 10mms, I managed to do it. But I can't assemble it; it's too loose. Do you recommend scaling down the heart?
I am having a gap between the gears and the heart, has anyone had this problem and rescaled the connectors? What size was used?
