FYI...cows don't have horns but bulls do
sorry, I have to correct you there. Whether cattle have horns or not depends, among other things, on the breed. Holstein dairy cows, for example, have horns regardless of whether they are male or female.
Usually the horns are removed at the age of a few days to weeks. They are burned out (under anaesthesia) with a special device so that no new horns grow back.
This is a safety measure for the people who handle the cattle and also for the other cows.
