Really exciting stuff. I feel like this would be tough to pull off on anything other than the X1 or another CoreXY. Have you printed this on a lower speed printer with less cooling ability? Did you have to model the lines with the same (or slightly smaller) thickness than the nozzle width? Can you upload the 3mf?
Aha, I found the "Detect Thin Walls" checkbox under Strength tab when Advanced mode is active, the strings show up!
I just got a Bambu Labs X1 Carbon and by pure luck, I printed the Sailboat design first and it worked great with the Bambu Labs slicer. I just printed another with bi-color silk filament. I used the recommended 0.3 layer height suggested to pick up the strings. Now I'm trying to print her other designs, including this one, and the slicer view doesn't show the strings like it did with the sailboat. This has been the case with several models. I've tried altering the layer heights with no luck. In between the first and second sailboat, Bambu Labs updated the software to include the new Arachne feature, so I was suspicious that feature broke it but the sailboat sliced OK but the others still did not. I think the Advanced settings show actual extrusion width as 0.42mm so perhaps the strings are exactly 0.4mm and the "< 0.42" factor trims them away. Haven't found the setting to keep thin walls in Bambu slicer.
I printed mine on my old, first generation Ender 3.
Love the piece. Any way to make the string section solid? For the life of me, I cant get that part to work on printer and it just destroys what would otherwise be a piece to die for.
**** I love your models. My first real print was one of your headphone stands - I still use it :)
Apparently I'm not good with string art. Spaghetti art in clearly my thing lol
very cool can't wait to try it thanks for sharing
Very nice job!
How do you model these? I want to make one for my daughter with an Icelandic horse.
Nice job Natalie! Took me a bit to figure out what it was lol. You're really liking the string art! ๐๐
