Circle String Art

Print at 0.3mm layer height.

If you are using Prusaslicer check the 'detect thin walls' box and make sure the 'wipe while retracting' is unchecked on your printer settings.

You should be able to see the strings in your slicer preview

How the heck do you design this stuff? I wouldn't even know where to start in Fusion 360.

Thanks for this model. First I saw it, I can´t believe that it works first! Fire up my Prusa, follow your hints and... except two little quirks it prints totally flawless. Using Prusament PLA. Will try next with PETG :-)

The looks impressive and I’m definitely going to try printing it. Is this print-in-place with no supports? If it is I’m amazed.

I like designing my own work but having a hard time figuring out how you are creating the strings. I am using fusion360 and drawing lines then making them into pipes but not sure about the size. My project the lines are too thick for my taste. I know you have to do something with the lines, or the slicer will not try to print them.

I wouldn't have thought it possible to print something like this, but I have and it is. This is a wonderful accomplishment, and I'll be printing some of your other models, too.

I am in the habit of mostly using a 0.6mm nozzle, but I could only get this to work with a 0.4mm one. Using Cura, I finally arrived at a Layer Height of 0.3 (instead of 0.32) and Line Width 0.4 (instead of the default 0.44). I learned that the strings need to show up in the slicer for it to work--that saved a lot of trial and error printing.

Keep up the good work!

I appreciate the note about line width settings, I was just about to ask! 😸

WOW, just printing it right now and until now it looks already great, will add picture as soon as done but I love your work, printing on Ender 5 plus without flaws (until now) Just saw your other models .... GREAT models you are a real artist ! thank you so much

I am using all the settings you suggestions. But now I was able to make it work. But i had to use "Avoid Crossing Parameters." I was using 0.3mm layer height. But went to 0.2mm again with the new settings. I had the situation that the printer was printing 1/3 of the string. Went back and continued, which caused incomplete strings and blobs on the strings. (Yes i am using Prusa Slicer)

I am printing your great model on my Prusa MK3S+ with my own brand of coextrusion filament. But i can see some of the strings are not complete. Since you have been fiddling with the string setup for some time now, would you happen to know where to set any parameters to enhance the strength of the strings?

Are you using prusaslicer? Make sure you have unchecked the 'wipe before retracting' box in the printer settings and double check that your initial layer height is 0.3mm as Prusaslicer defaults to 0.2mm. If this doesn't help give me a shout?

I didn't think my machine (Prusa MK3S) could possibly do this, so I put it on, just to see. Came out perfectly! Nice model, well done!
