Crystal Dragon 2025

This model is restricted by licensing terms.

I’ve learned so much since creating my first designs, and over time, I’ve refined features like connecting links and other key aspects. The original Crystal Dragon still uses the original links, which don’t print as smoothly or cleanly as the updated designs. To celebrate three incredible years of Cinderwing3D, I’m thrilled to release a 2025 updated version PACK of the original Crystal Dragon! This updated version incorporates some of the latest dragon design enhancements while staying true to the charm and spirit of the original.

Yes, you heard that right—PACK! Along with the 2025 updated version of the Crystal Dragon, we’re excited to include a few extra surprises, made possible by our incredible team of testers. Thanks to their efforts, this pack includes (6) .3MF multi-color files and (2) MEGA Crystal Dragon files scaled to an impressive 200% and 300%! A heartfelt thank you to everyone whose incredible efforts helped bring these fun bonuses to life!

Mega Dragons: Cut by DonumExMachina Paint Jobs (Alt 1-3): By SledgePainter Paint Job Colors: By Admin Jazzy Your contributions made this release truly special!

NOTES and Assembly of the Mega Dragons:

  • 200% is on 4 plates and around 800g of filament, should come out to around 5ft/1.5m
  • 300% is on 11 plates and around 2,700g of filament, should out around 6.7ft/2m
  • Each plate has a cut loop with pegs and a matching loop remainder with holes.
  • Once printed, you need to connect the pieces together by putting a dab of super glue in the hole part and connecting it around the other link. (It is suggested that you test the loop connection of each piece before gluing it together.)
  • For the 300% the link right behind the back legs is the hardest to connect because of the angle. We used plyers to hold the loop piece while connecting it.
  • Depending on your printer the 300%’s pegs may need supports. Highly recommend checking your cooling is at 100%, and recommending crosshatch, gyroid, or 3d honeycomb for infill. 2-3 walls at 5% infill due to the size and scope.

This is a SPECIAL one time thing in celebration of the Crystal Dragon's anniversary and will not be a normal thing for future models. That being said we hope this inspires you all to make some mega dragons! All cuts were made using Bambu Studio/Orca Slicer's cut tools. https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/software/bambu-studio/cut-tool

Filament used: https://www.amazon.com/shop/cinderwing3d 3D PRINTING SETTINGS FDM Settings 3 walls 10-25% infill No supports Raft or brim if you have adhesion issues

Resin Settings No supports, flat on plate 50 um layer thickness Light off delay can be helpful to let resin drip from links.

Proper bottom exposure tuning is recommended. Models, particularly in clear resins, can suffer from overexposure and fused links. The Ameralabs Town testing is highly recommended to tune your settings as to get proper articulated prints! Exposure varies greatly between resins, printers, and environments.

Actually printed on Kobra X, but is not listed. Silk Jade Green PLA, Translucent Blue-Green PLA, and Black and White PLA+ for eyes. ~15 hour print.
Printed in red and maroon red, the photos don't do it justice!
Eryone Aurora Dream quad-color silk PLA on a Creality K1SE. I used the 300% plates, scaled to 70% and printed plates 4-8 twice for a 7-foot Mega. Collective print time appx 125.5hrs, just under 2 spools of filament (with enough to make him a little buddy). Eyes teeth and claws are painted with oil-based acrylic paint pens because with the quad-color filament, the CFS caused too much of a twist in the filament with each retraction causing banding in odd places.

Going to try without the brim tomorrow. Awesome print. This model is getting my girls excited about 3d printing.

Scaled to 60%. 11.5h print.
These were so easy for me to print, and they all turned out stunning! They were our biggest seller at last month's festival. Thank you Cinderwing!!

Crystal dragon as a flush model.
This is the Crystal 2025 model at 100% size printed with Ziro Matte Pla Rosy Cloud.
I also added the extra colours making the eyes pop!
2025 crystal dragon printed in Polymaker black and silk lime
I wanted smaller versions -- even the "tiny" dragons are too large to fit into a 3D printed egg! So ... on a single plate I printed a 75% scale, a 60% scale, a 50% scale and a 40% scale. Having a full plate helps cycle the rainbow filament faster, and the time/material cost of all those filament changes is easier to bear. I lost one spine linkage in the 40% one, but that might have me being too eager/careless removing it from the plate rather than a manufacturing problem. A spot of glue and who can tell? They are all so cute for different reasons. 25h 28m to print, 300g filament in all. One silk rainbow filament, one silk white filament.
Printed with Giantarm White Silk and Amolen Pink Silk. 'Skipped' the purge object most of the way through to get the pinkish tips on some of the crystals
Just finished my first of many to come. Loving it and my son too. There’s another one in the oven already.
My 10yo daughter is in love with your dragons and surprised her with the 300% mega. She flipped out over it. Its aslong as her queen size bed. Totally impractical but amazing and just had to print it.
